Drain Hose Leaking inside 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Our Jeep after a rain will have standing water in the passenger floor board. after much investigation, we have noticed a hose that runs along the upper "body" passenger frame. when you open the door, you remove the plastice that goes along the inside of the door opening (of the body of the car) to the dash. there is a hose that seems to be rotten, becasue when you try to move it it just breaks and crumbles. we haven't removed much of the upper interior to follow the hose from begining to end, but it seems to run toward the rear. Not sure if it has anything to do with the moon roof. But when it rains it leaks from this hose. we want to sell the jeep and don't want to dump a lot of money into it. any suggestions? thanks!

Acer Aspire 1804 wireless prob?

Hi, New to Acer and this forum.

I have recently purchased the above laptop,( Desktop replacement in my case ).

The 1804 was in Mint condition, the fans were totally dust free. It's the coldest running laptop I have ever come across. I only use it for web surfing so it is ideal.

The seller had installed an unauthenticated Win7 on it so I replaced it with XP Home , as that is what the COA shows on the underside. After downloading the appropriate drivers and installing them I found that the wireless would show all available networks in my area,( actually way more than my two other wireless comps find ) it also connects to my ISP but will NOT accept my authentication detail.

I then installed Vista , again DL the drivers and came up with exactly the same prob, can see all available networks but cannot get the authentication accepted.

I have in the past found that if the network can be seen but I couldn't log on then it meant I had not entered the correct details, however in this case I have verified that I am using the correct login detail.

To summarise, two comps connect to the wireless one comp with two OS's won't.

Any help would be appreciated.

Reply 1 : Acer Aspire 1804 wireless prob?

Remove the security altogether and check if it connects when the network is unsecure.

Also make sure that you are using the most recent drivers- not the most recent drivers from Acer.

What's the Wi-Fi card?

Reply 2 : Acer Aspire 1804 wireless prob?

Hi, Thankyou for your reply.

Update: I spent one hour today with my ISP trying all sorts of things, they came to the conclusion that it is a driver problem.

I also hooked up a USB wireless adapter which works faultlessly. I log on at about 14 mps and the adapter was showing 11+ mps throughput , so nothing wrong there.

The card details as per Everest are: InproComm Wireless-g notebook adapter v 4.0... Dev ID 17FE.2220....Sub System 1468-0305.

Re drivers, I have been DL drivers, in fact so many I am getting lost in them.

One message I am getting is : the required line was not found in the INF.

Re logging on sans security, it won't.

cheers, Eddie.

This card is ancient to say the least- try this & this.

Did it ever work with Vista. It doesn't seem to be officially supported.

Also with some older driver versions it doesnt support WPA so it won't connect unless you use WEP.

Moving the thread to networking.

Reply 4 : Acer Aspire 1804 wireless prob?

Thankyou VERY much, Sir, your blood should be bottled. The second driver worked ! I am only using Xp Home at the moment to write this but will try Vista once I have got over the novelty .

May I ask another question please. Re this ancient card, can I replace it with something more modern?

Just tried with Vista, no go! Mind you I don't mind using XP.

Reply 5 : Acer Aspire 1804 wireless prob?

You should be able to replace it. In most cases Wi-Fi was connected by mini-PCI

(the one on the left).

If you open the service hatch and see a card like this you can just buy another one and install it- no problems at all.

OK! many thanks for your help.

Momentus XT Stutters

I recently upgraded processor from 720QM to 940xm. Am using Throttlestop, and it's very fast. I do a lot of photo and video editing, and my 320 GB drive was starting to fill, so I decided to upgrade to Momentus XT 500 GB. I updated the firmware to version sd25 (latest). It does seem somewhat faster than the 320 gb original, but now I have a new, big problem: Stutter when playing HD video. I use SplashPro for playing video, because it makes better use of video card and hardware acceleration than other players. I have always been able to play HD video smoothly from the previous hard disk, and even from an external drive connected via USB port (2.0). But with the momentus, there is sound stuttering about 2-3 times per second, with some associated lack of video smoothness. I have played with all the drive-related settings I can find, to no avail. I have left messages on the Seagate forum - no response yet.

Has anyone seen this problem? Any solutions?

It's frustrating - I am beginning to think I should simply have gotted a regular 750GB or 1TB drive instead.

Thanks for any help you may be able to provide.

A better solution is to use MPC-HC with madVR and CoreAVC for hardware acceleration. If you want the motion interpolation that Splash Pro provide I suggest some other free options using avisynth scripts that I can introduce you to. But try CoreAVC+madVR and Reclock helps with syncing videos to your display.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I will certainly give these programs a try - CoreAVC seems a particularly good option.

But I need to be really clear - HD video playback was not broken prior to the installation of the Momentus XT drive. I could play HD video and audio smoothly, even with the old 720QM processor from the original 320GB hard disk, from an external hard disk connected via USB 2.0, or from a USB memory stick (also 2.0). So, I think this is not related to the video software or to processor load - it's due to the hard disk. This conclusion is supported by multiple reports of video stuttering with Momentus XT drives, both in MAC's and Windows computers. I would love to find a workaround - but if I can't find one, I'llprobably swap the drive for a conventional 750 GB drive - SSD would be a consideration, but large ones are still pretty expensive.

Yeah it seems to be the case with XT's I'm not sure why though. I don't have one so I can't really help. If you can isolate the problem to only the XT by having an identical windows installation on both drives and seeing how they perform.

WIn7 installation was cloned (via Acronis) from the original 320 GB drive that came with the m15x. I had no problem playing HD video from that drive. I am not home now. Tonight, when I get home, I will play HD video from my external drive via USB to verify that it is the XT.

Thanks,

Joe

have had my XT for over 6 months. Fresh install of Win 7 Ultimate, runs well in win media player. Try K-Lite codec pack.

Could be possible that something is hogging system resources.

You might be on the right track. I tried last night from external drive - stuttering is also there, so maybe the Momentus is not the culprit. Video seems smooth, but sound has breaks about 2-3x per second. I tried MPC-HC - sound does not stutter, but video is not as smooth as with Splash Pro. I did install K-Lite - video seems a bit smoother, but audio still with breaks. Thorough antivirus sweep is negative. I did have to reinstall sound drivers after reconstructing the backup - but the latest drivers from the Dell site installed without incident. Am using latest Nvidia driver for the 240m.

Will leave a note on the Splash Pro site - maybe they have a suggestion. Drive seems ok. I did have a BSOD this am, but could have been due to all the software installs - reboot ws uneventful.

Onward,....

Try starting clean, and reinstalling visual C++ 2010 x86 and x64. Install CoreAVC, then install MPC-HC, google madVR and download version 0.52, extract and run install.bat as admin, go to MPC and go the options and select madVR as your renderer. Close program and play video with it.

I'm willing to try some of this - but I am not willing to put in the time it would take to do a clean install. I have way too much software to be willing to reinstall everything - especially since it appears that this issue does not occur for all players. In particular, MPC (after install of CoreAVC) does not show the audio breakup. Unfortunately, the video is significantly less clear and smooth compared with Splash. I have left a message on the Splash site to see if it is a version problem for them.

Thanks,

Joe

Problem with my standard and administrator accounts

I really really need some help on this subject. I tried to ask on Yahoo answers but all I got was useless answers from complete morons.

So this is what happened. A couple of month back I decided to change my main administrator account to standard account and then I changed my guest account into administrator. So after a week i decided to put it back the way it was so i went to my standard account and tried to change it.

I clicked on administrator button and clicked ok but nothing happened, it still said that I was a standard user. i then decided to go to my admin account and change it from there but it wouldnt let me for some reason. The 'standard' option wouldnt let me click on it. Also for some reason, I cant change ANYTHING. even on my admin account.

I cant create a 3rd account because it wont let me, I cant create a password for my admin account so its all out int he open for anyone to go on to and the worst thing is that I use my standard account as my main account and I CAN NOT DO ANYTHING ON IT, I CANT UNINSTALL DIVX PLAYER BECAUSE I HAVE TO BE ADMIN. I CANT EVEN DOWNLOAD ANY SOFTWARE

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME SOMEONE

Reply 1 : Problem with my standard and administrator accounts

PS I dont know a lot abotu computers. So if someone can explain to me what to do step by step, that would really help. Thanks.

Reply 2 : Problem with my standard and administrator accounts

What version of windows? Windows XP, Vista, 7???

Reply 3 : Problem with my standard and administrator accounts

I have windows 7.

Reply 4 : Problem with my standard and administrator accounts

they admintrator account that you originally had was/is the username "Administrator" or is it like your name or User or Owner etc.?

Reply 5 : Problem with my standard and administrator accounts

No.

My main account is called joseph whilst my second account is called joseph2. The first account use to be the original admin account until I changed it to standard whilst my second account joseph2 is now administrator but use to be the guest account (btw it does not have password protection and i cant seem to create one because it wotn let me change anything)

Reply 6 : Problem with my standard and administrator accounts

I do not have a windows 7 machine here right now but i know this works with windows XP and vista so it should work with windows 7

Load windows into safe mode

When windows is booting fit F8 till you get the advanced boot menu and select safe mode

once in safe mode you should have a account that is listed as just "administrator" and should have no password

login to that account and go to start>control panel>users

and you should be able to change what ever account you want to be a admin account or change the password

let me know if this works

I tried but it doesnt work.

This answer assumes you are not connected to a domain...

Dude login as joseph2 (or what ever account has admin power)

What U need to do is enable the hidden administrator account, when this is done you will have 3 accounts that you can use, (the 2 you already have and administrator).

I did it in Win 7 and I did not have to use SAFE mode, but I am sure this would work it you did.

Enable the (Hidden) Administrator Account on Windows 7 or Vista - How-To Geek

Once you have this adminstrator account without a password, login with it and U can manage the other 2.

Help with Alienware Tactx Keyboard customization.

So I recently purchased the Alienware Tactx Keyboard. The command center/alienfx that it came with are severely dated, doesn't anyone know if there are updates available?

Also I've been attempting to edit the alienfx.ath files to makem y own custom themes with .xml notepad. Any tips you guys can give or anything? Is morphing posible through xml on these keyboards?

Also, if anyone can tell me the color codes alienware uses that'd be great because they're reminiscent of html, although not the same. Any help on furthering my customization and enjoyment of this keyboard would be much appreciated.

Bump for help, no where on the web hardly discusses these keyboards.

Try desktopreview... Generally speaking, we notebook users tend not to buy external keyboards. And have you tried looking for the update? Pretty sure its up on the Dell / Alienware site.

If you do not have an Alienware system, you will not be able to use the current version of Alienware's Command Center - Command Center will have a current version of AlienFX which is the app used to control the keyboard lighting.

As for the color codes, they are hex color codes. There are 8 digits - the first 2 are transparency and the remaining six are the hex color. You can edit these directly via the theme file (.ath).

Long Boot-up Time

Hello all, I have a question regarding what seems like an extra long boot-up time. Everything seems to work fine and it comes off of standby almost instantly, but when I shut down to do a re-boot to clear it out, it seems like it is taking a little longer than it did when it was new.
And I know adding stuff can make that happen and I do have a few things that I added that I expect to make it take a little longer but I was curious about one thing in particular. I have (4) network drives "mapped" in my Windows Explorer just so I can have quick access to the drives on the other computers in my house. But, most always, non of them are turned on so I get one of those little cloud pop-ups that says something like, "Could not connect to network drives" or something like that.
So, I was just wondering if having a bunch of drives mapped like this can cause Windows to stall a bit during a boot-up because it is looking for drives that aren't there.

Did you look at your machine with AUTORUNS? It's over at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx

And lean? Can to share your HIJACKTHIS LOG? It's worth a quick peek?

And what about this machine? Make, model and details seem absent. For example many install Norton or another large app and then discover it carries a price.

And sorry, I forgot the machine info, it was all in my profile but I should have supplied it here too.
I haven't installed "Hijackthis" on this machine yet and no Norton, I strip that out and use AVG only.
I also examined everything I have "auto-starting" and don't have anything I need except for one questionable item. I use an old Sandisk Thumbdrive as an additional backup to my online banking and it is setup with U3. I know the Cruzer U3 is infamous for trouble but it never caused a problem before, but that's not to say it isn't conflicting with something now. Here is a link to a screen-shot of my Task Manager

These machines usually have little protection. Folk add apps plus more protection and sometimes these slow down the boot.

But why BOOT? Why not use hibernation to skip the long boot?
Bob

Reply 6 : Long Boot-up Time

I don't re-boot often, maybe once or twice a week, just to clear the caches and such. Plus, I've encountered an interesting issue where web content can't open my Windows Media Player to see a video or play an mp3 unless I reboot.
When I open the Task Manager, like right now, I only have 26 processes running and just 1 application. So I think I still have it running pretty lean.
