Mini PCI/e mod

Since Mini PCI has USB D+ and D- pinout #36 and #38, could it be use for other USB device? Has anyone tried?



Idea just came up, when i see a lot of HP/Compaq with wireless issues. I was wondering if the pinout #36 and #38 also hopefully the GRND is good, I could use USB wifi adapter (or any USB devices) and mod it into the mini pci-e slot.

If the mPCIe slot with USB pins 36/38 isn't whitelisted then can do this. However you'll need to pull 5V from somewhere to drive the USB device you mod in if it usually plugs in via a USB port. See USB port pinout.



A webcam was modded into a 2510P using a similar idea here, though via the docking connector and it was a 3.3V device. The author of that link had previously modded USB hubs into his netbook.

Thanks for quick reply. I myself did a mod with USB hub using one of the USB for webcam, SD card reader and BT. I was just trying to avoid the USB port and use the pci/e. When you said black out, you mean like from the Bios? Only certain brand of pci will work on/in it?
