I have my cable box set to come on in the morning to a specified channel. I also have my TV set to come on at the same time. I have also tried the TV coming on 2 minutes before the cable box, SA 4250HD. The problem is when the TV comes on it is not on the specific channel I have set to on the cable box. What I get is static and a message on the TV "weak signal" Each time since I have been using the HDMI I have to use the remote to get the HDMI to come on with the TV. Is there a setting I have missed somewhere? I'm using HDMI cable. George

No Bios Screen/Boot (IFL90)
I don't know what went wrong but I was trying to install a fresh copy of windows 7, AFAIK I went to sleep with it fully working only to wake up with this issue.
When booting up the laptop, all the lights come on, the fan turns on and I can even control the cd tray however, the screen is absolutely blank. The bios does not show and it will just remain at this blank screen endlessly.
I'm all out of idea's... and without the bios I have no idea what to do.
School will be starting in a few days so excuse my panic-y cry for HELP!

New Ram won't work, computer won't start with Ram Installed!
I have Windows Vista 32bit and just upgraded the ram from 2-1GB DDR2 cards to 4-1GB DDR2 cards. I know that Windows Vista 32bit will only run 3GB but I've read online that the Video Card and other hardware, will also use some memory. So installing 4GB will allow you to use around 3.5GB.
My issue is that when I installed 4GB, the computer would light up like it is on, but the screen would stay black and the tower would beep every 5 seconds or so. It never did start up either. So I removed one of the cards and it works fine on 3-1GB card.
Is the fourth card defective, or the motherboard memory receiver wrecked or can the system not run with more than 3GB installed?

Backup and iPhoto
I am using an Intel MacBook 2.4 Mhz 2Gb RAM and OS 10.6.5
Time Machine has never successfully backed-up so I have been using Backup which works fine.
However I now want to restore just a couple of photos from my iphoto library. Is this possible because it only seems to offer the option of restoring the whole library?
Any suggestions gratefully received.

When i connect to internet , I do no see any of the apps which I had seen in the internet.
There is no netflix , blockbuster , hulu and daily motion does not work.
Basically there is no way u can watch streaming movies .
Face book apps also has limitation - it cannot display photos and cannot display more than 10 items in news feed .
I called up 800-SAMSUNG and they told me that for this region , the apps are not available and are restricted by etisalat.

Blue Screen Of Death

Unmountable boot volume - but the only thing I changed is ram
Has anyone heard of new memory causing this error? It sounds like it's the kind of thing a corrupted hard disk or bad install of Windows would cause - not RAM. If you've read my other topics here, you know I'm trying to get a 2005 Dell Optiplex GX280 up to speed to be my parents' primary PC. Today I put in a Nvidia Geforce GT 430, which is working out to be a great improvement over the Intel GMA and went fine - and some RAM, which I think may have jacked it up.
The machine previously had a single 512MB DDR2 400mhz stick, which I yanked out and replaced with two 1GB DDR 533mhz sticks. I had it set up single channel at first, went into the BIOS and saw the system recognized the 533mhz speed and the full 2gb of memory. Looked good to go, I exited and continued bootup - midway trough the Windows XP booting screen I got a BSOD telling me unmountable boot volume. Thinking it was a fluke I rebooted, same thing. I put the ram in again as dual channel, same thing.
Frustrated, I went upstairs to do some research, then came back to find the PC booted into Windows just fine, seeing all the memory, etc. A few more reboots and it all seemed fine. Then another reboot gave the same error.
Any idea why this may be happening?

bluetooth drivers instaalled on n5010 but not working

I have just bought a DELL N5010 Laptop. My Os IS Windows 7, and i installed latest bluetooth drives from support.dell.com. When I turned it on and let it search the bletooth enabled devices, it can found them but it cant send file to or receive file from. I saw a notification in in task bar, which has the "Driver Software Installation" and there, it listed "Blutooth Peripheral Device" as "No driver Found". What should i do ?

dv6-3040us clicking noise
I just got a pavilion dv6-3040us. After using it a few times I notice that it keeps making a clicking sound. The sound appears to be coming from under/near the touchpad area. I'm not sure exactly where the hdd is located, but i'm assuming the sound is coming from the hdd.
I tried searching on google for a solution. However, all I could come up with is that the sound might be caused by the driveguard protection system or by the power management.
Have anyone else encounter this problem before? Is there is a fix for it?

X-fi MB2 download?
I recently got my G73JW, and the first thing I did was do a clean install of Windows 7 to set up a dual-boot, and get rid of most of the pre-installed stuff I'd never use.
However, I now have a problem, which is that the Creative X-FI MB2 package which supposedly came with this laptop isn't available on either Asus (hardly surprising) or Creative's (?) website, and from what I gather, the JW does not have a driver/utilities DVD.
Could someone be kind enough to give me a working link to download it?

this game runs like crap. new 260.99+hybrid 8 gb of ram low settings. One thought i had is that its making me turn on page-file, which tells me it uses it and with a 5400 rpm hard drive that's not good (waiting for my vertex in mail). Can anyone else let me know if they have issue with this game?

Asus: G60Vx (VOLUME KEYS) "HELP!"
I need help. I bought the ASUS: G60Vx used. from, Newegg.com. I bought it for the use of gaming "Steam" Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead 2, and so on. But, the volume keys don't work. The volume keys are on "F10" (Mute) "F11" (Lower Volume) and "F12" (Increase Volume). I need help. They don't work. I searched the whole laptop. I do not see any other volume control on the laptop what so ever, besides on the laptop screen "destop". The ASUS: G60Vx didn't come with a manual either. Please help me!

Wings of Rrey Joystick
So I bought Wings of Prey because of the sale on Steam. Anyway I could go on about the frustration I've had trying to get full access to this game, but I'll leave that for another time. Right now my problem is getting my joystick to function. I have a Logitech attack 3 which is not part of the available device options. I searched how to use my joystick and this is what I came up with on the steam forums.
although when I tried it the keymapping part does not work. When I try to map my joystick buttons for fire or anything else nothing happens. It's like pushing the buttons on my logitech attack 3 does not register at all. Can anyone help my situation?

M11x cooling fans? Which one is best?
Are there any cooling fans that do the m11x justice. The one I am looking at is the belkin one that has the U shape and the fan sits in the middle of that to create more airflow. I'm afraid that it is bigger than the m11x and would like something that fits more flush with it. height I don't care really.

GX740 FPS problem
Okay guys, so I've been having this for a while now, well here's how it is:
When I got the laptop for like the first 2 months the laptop worked great, I used to get like 120-200fps with max settings in my games, really never went below 90fps.
Well, while ago I just noticed while gaming, that the same game had started to lag sometimes, FPS is sometimes up in 90 but most of the time it's around about 50fps. I haven't touched any settings or anything.
I tried upgrading my graphics card driver, but didn't work at all. I reinstalled the game, didn't work. Did default settings for the ATI Catalyst Control Center, didn't work.
Today, I noticed how it was in my opinion, even worse. The fps was around 30-50 sometimes even 20 (never gone that low). I put lower Anti-Aliasing and Resolution to minimum, didn't do anything at all.
What is up with it? (It can't really be heat or anything, since I just turned on my PC and it's always really cool, never heated up that bad..)

Sasmung Hpt4254 Plasma clicking
2 years ago I purchased my Samsung HPT4254, and this morning I turned on the tv, and after 5 minutes it shutdown and kept clicking as if it were powering on. I removed the shell, and took out the power supply to look for blown circuits, but I didn't see any bulging. I had a samsung technician come out, just to have him tell me it would be $300 to repair, but all he told me is that it was the power supply. Can someone please give me an answer as to what to do, and what this white gunk looking stuff all over the power supply is?
can't get webcam to install totally
I have a labtech webcam 5.1.0 install disc thats for 98, ME, 2000 and xp..It installs everything then restarts the computer and asks you to plug in the camera(USB).I plug it in but it won't show any picture not even blackness so I can't finish the process.I have xp and I had it working before I reformated the hard drive but I remember downloadinga newer driver than what was on the disc . I can't find the driver to download.The sites I get to are complicated and seem to download other things even though I press for 5.1.0. Does anyone know where the right driver is or what could be wrong?

I have seen some random postings here from other members of Toughbooks they have seen in print ads, stills from a movie or commercial and such, well I have just recently caught up on a TV show that I have never seen called "The Wire". there are a bunch of CF-28's, CF-29's, CF-18's all over that show. right from season 1 up to the final season 5. Audio Crackling on the 15x - Discussion Thread
Greetings 15x owners... I have been noticing a handful of posts relating to audio crackling on the 15x. Please help. The svchost.exe is running high. It keeps my CPU Usage at 100%. Don't know how to turn it down. My operatig system is Windows XP. I know it has to do with the Microsoft's printing process. Help

Reliability Monitor
Even though in the "task scheduler" rac agent is enabled my "reliability monitor" has not updated since 11/30/2010.I have not made any changes and my system is functioning fine otherwise.OS Vista home premium

the picture its self is great but in the backround have a constant flicker in some of the pixels. They seem to stay in place but never stop. They vary in color from red to green. I also have noticed a slight buzzing noise coming from it also. I have no idea what the problem may be so any help may make the difference. Thanks

Alienware M17x overheating
Alright here is my deal. Right now I am only playing one game that is Dragon Age: Origins. I just reformatted my system less than a week ago. Before I reformatted I never had any issues with running DAO on max everything. Texture on high; graphics on high and maxed resolution. For some reason since I reinstalled everything about 20 minutes into playing my computer shuts-off. Just like from an overheating problem. The only difference between now and then was I did not have the most up-to-date video card drivers. Now I have the latest drivers.
I have done a little reading on this site and others and I have downloaded a CPU temperature monitor and a GPU temp monitor along with RivaTuner. My CPU temp is fine while playing the game even with everything maxed still. My GPU temp is around 110C and 95 to 100 for the second card.
I turned the graphics setting down to medium and the temperature is still well into if not just above the danger zone of 90 - 95C for the GTX 260m.

Toshiba Satellite freezing while using Internet Explorer
The whole computer freezes up when using Internet Explorer 8. It happens the first time after about 45 min of use, and after shutting the computer down, under 1 min after restart of ie8. It then takes a while to happen again.

UL50VT Network adapter reinstalling itself on login
I started a separate thread for this so as not to hijack other threads.
I just recently purchased a UL50VT from NewEgg. One issue that has come up is the Atheros Network adapter. I wiped the drive and installed a fresh copy of Win 7 Home Premium x64 (same edition that came with laptop). Windows found it and installed it without me needing to provide ASUS drivers.
The problem is that every time I restart the computer and login to Windows, Windows finds and reinstalls the network adapter. Just setting up the laptop, i'm now up to "Atheros AR8131 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet controller (NDIS 6.20) #16", with the number going up each time I restart the computer.
I tried downloading the ASUS provided driver, which it took as an updated driver, but it's still doing the same thing. I can use the network card without an issue, it's just that it's reinstalling it every time I restart the computer which isn't supposed to happen.

My 330M Sager laptop was able to run Aion on highest settings and 1920 x 1080 resolution (although the fps dropped to 20~ some times) so I have no doubt this Radeon 5650 will do a lot better at 1600 x 900. Same CPU, however. I hear Acer laptops can overclock really well. I suppose it depends on the model. If there are any owners, please comment on the build quality, color, screen, keyboard, heat, and portability. I will give my own opinion, soon!

"Boot device not available" on Dimension 5100
I just recently acquired a Dell Dimension 5100. I was trying to install XP MCE 2005 on it, since that is what originally came on the machine. I put the MCE disk in the drive and power on the system. "Boot device not available". I changed the boot order so the CD drive is first, since I am trying to reinstall XP on it. Same error. I restart it over and over with the same error. The system currently has no OS on it. How can I fix this problem? Thanks!

Alienware M15x Freezing when ejecting disks??
Hello guys....long time reader, first thread. 
I had searched through the forums quite a bit, learning much info on these notebooks. But I was wondering if anyone with an M15x has experienced this issue before?
Maybe 50% of the time, whenever I try to eject a disc I inserted to install a game or watch a movie, the system will completely freeze for about 10 seconds, and the disc will not eject. At first, I thought this was because of the DVD Drive, but apparently it isnt. Then I figured it was the touch strip, so I tried to eject the disc by going to My Computer, and right click ejecting the disc drive, which also caused a continuously spinning "thinking" circle and the whole system would crash, needing a hard reboot. I originally had a DVD RW drive in my system (model GA31N) and replaced it with a bluray reader (Model CA10N) and it still has the same issue. This leads me to believe its a software problem somewhere?
Whenever this occurs, I also get problems shutting down the PC. It will stay at "Shutting Down" or "Logging Off" forever. I have to manually hard shutdown the system. But when the system reboots, I can eject the disc at the BIOS screen or while Windows is loading.
This happens with any type of media....BDROM, DVD, CD, etc.
Anyone have a fix for this, or have experienced this with their system? I have tried reformatting the system and reinstalling everything to no avail.
The M15x is only 3 months old. Specs:

External Hard Drives questions
Hello. I recently took apart my WD MyBook because it had stopped working. I want to figure out if the drive is worth buying a new casing for before I start shopping. Is there a way to tell if it works? Also, what is the ideal type of casing for me to put it in if working with a Mac?
Also, my old PowerBook died a couple years ago (dead motherboard) but the hard drive might still be good. This is a smaller hard drive (as internals for laptops are,) what should I use to make this an external hard drive?

Vista will not boot - Help!
Running Vista: Last night I am guessing that during an update something went wrong: Computer would not boot this morning:
Went to the Startup Repair and received the message that Windows cannot repair computer automatically, and cannot determine the cause of the problem.
Here is what I have tried:
Safe Mode boot - did not work:
System Restore - Said that it was successful, but needed to reboot, and then same problem:
In F8 mode - tried to restore to last successful settings, did not work.
Any suggestions

Trouble installing Video Controller Presario v2000
I have a Compaq Presario v2000 with an ATI Radeon Xpress 200m.
I just reinstalled Windows XP and found most of the drivers on the net, but I can't seem to get the correct display drivers.
In the Device Manager the Video Controller (VGA Compatible) is not installed.
I tried letting it automatically find drivers but it doesn't find any.
I've tried downloading multiple drivers for ATI radeon, but none seem to work.
Maybe I need a chipset driver?
I'm not really sure why I'm having so much trouble getting it work, so any help or hints would be great, thanks.

Left and right channels swaping back and forth on some tunes
I've got several problems with Itunes, but the worst is that on a couple of albums copied from CDs the left and right channels of audio switch back and forth during songs. I've played the CDs on my stereo and they are fine, but when I listen on my IPOD after each line of some songs, the channels switch. I listened on ITUNES and it's the same way. Any ideas??

lifebook series C wireless card crashing XP
So I've spent several hours today clearing out a friends laptop that had the thinkpoint malware on it. I think it is a C2310 model. Pent. M 1.6ghz 1.2gb ram system.
Oddly, now that I've gotten that cleared off and then uninstalled McAfee Enterprise (total PITA to clear off the agent bit), any time I turn on the wireless card (via the hardware switch), the machine blue screens and auto reboots. The only way I can boot into WinXP is in safe mode sans network drivers or with the wireless card turned off at hardware level. The wired card works fine.
I can still get net access thru a wired connection. Updating windows/MS Security/Spybot. Any hints on what to do? Could the thinkpoint malware have screwed windows enough that it killed the wireless?
Windows is also missing video card drivers/controller issues as well as "base system device drivers and multimedia drivers. Any good sites for drivers? Fujitsu site is rather vague on their drivers for it.

T410 Questions
Hello again people. I've settled on the T410 from , and would like some advice.
Firstly, I will be purchasing it with 4GB RAM (1DIMM PC3-10600 DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz). Would it be alright to add another stick of the same RAM from a competing company? Or is it recommended to do a full swap so both sticks match?
Second. I will be purchasing it with the lowest end HDD I can get included, and will be hopefully putting in an SSD (128GB-160GB) and storing music/data on an external drive. Any recommendations for a high performance SSD that will work well with the T410?
And lastly. The processor. There is a 200 dollar difference in the i5 and i7 available for this model, and looking at clock speeds, they are almost identical. Would it be worth the 200 dollars to get the i7, or should I get the i5 and hold off until I can mount a new processor?
Any advice in these areas would be appreciated. I love Lenovo, and the ease of swapping parts in and out. I will let you people know when things come together, I'm hoping to do some boxing day shopping =)

blue screen event - seeking advice
About 3-4 weeks ago, I initiated a thread about my PC's blue screen events (BSE) (aka crash) which had been occurring since I replaced my PC's hard drive 6-7 weeks ago:
Jnjroach suggested I update the video driver and, in case this did not alleviate the problem, to repair the OS from the source disk. After I updated the video driver, the frequency of BSEs seemed to decrease precipitously, but about 7-10 days ago, they recurred with a vengeance. I then attempted to repair the Vista operating system from my original source CD, but the PC indicated no error was present, so no repair was performed. The BSEs are now seriously hindering the use of my PC; today alone five BSEs occurred. I performed a Blue Screen View (BSV), which produced much data that I could not decipher. I performed a BSV for the last 10 BSEs that have occurred and, despite my inability to interpret them, I discerned that they were virtually identical for all 10 of the most recent BSEs.
In the meantime, my PC automatically downloads all Windows Vista updates as they become available and I have installed all of them except for the upgrade from internet explorer 7 (IE 7) to IE 8; I prefer how IE 7 manages the Favorites during the copy phase over IE 8. Antivirus protection is provided by Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE), which I keep updated and run constantly in real time, and I ran a full scan several days ago with no virus threats detected. I use Malwarebytes for malware protection and likewise keep it updated and scan my PC periodically with no threats again identified. My PC's other primary software are Microsoft Office Student and Home Edition, VideoLAN media player, Adobe Reader, Java, iTunes, and QuickTime, all of which are updated regularly and have been apparently been working well. The BSEs seemingly occur randomly and do not appear to be associated with any specific PC activity, time of day, or other events I can discern.
I would greatly appreciate any advice and suggestions to rectify the situation. In case this is helpful, I have attached a sequential text list of all the files named by Blue Screen View for the latest BSE that occurred some 2 hours ago; as I mentioned above, the file list is identical for at least the last 10 BSEs. I constructed this list with Windows Notepad and most plain text readers should be able to open it as well. Thanks much for reading this rather lengthy narrative and for any advice/suggestions.

In case this is helpful, I have attached a sequential text list of all the files named by Blue Screen View for the latest BSE that occurred some 2 hours ago; as I mentioned above, the file list is identical for at least the last 10 BSEs. I constructed this list with Windows Notepad and most plain text readers should be able to open it as well. Thanks much for reading this rather lengthy narrative and for any advice/suggestions.

What are your specs, and what kind of battery life are you getting? Do you have the DreamColor 2 screen? Idle measurements, browsing with WLAN, watching a DVD, working under load, etc. are all useful measurements. Since I received my Allpowerfull M15x laptop, I always wanted to use the alienFX lights as an indicator of whether I am currently busy or available to talk to/etc... The solution provided by alienware would be to load up the alienFX software (takes a relative long time), load up a previously created profile, hit the apply button and exit the application. Suffice to say that this is really impractical to be of any use. The other major problem was that I use mainly Linux as my working environment and alienfx is not available for linux and the alienware software seems not to work on Windows over a virtual machine installed(tried both Vmware and VMBox).
Thus I decided to write my own alienFX program which would work under Windows and Linux. Here is the Result
I would be grateful for any comments and opinions on how to make the application better. Also, please let me know if you think the application is useless, so that I know if there is any point in further developing this application.

APC Surge Pro Notebook for HP Pavilion
Hi, so i went to Singapore, and bought an APC Surge protection for my HP Pavilion Dv6z
and when i got back to Jakarta, and about to plug it in, i notice that the HP Pavilion Jack have 3 heads, where this APC one still use the older 2 jack
the plug of this APC cant go into the 3 jack of Pavilion Adapter 
my question is
is there some sort of extension that i can use here? otherwise i am about to have an item worth S$60 that isn't going to have any use =(

I have been lurking these forums for a couple of weeks to find ways to squeese more power out of my laptop.
I have a Novabook Terminator which is based on the Compal FL90.
It has a T7500 Merom C2D @ 2.2ghz
4gb DDR2 pc2-5300 with 5:5:5:15 timings
Geforce 8600GT 512mb.
I am currently using the laptop to play wow and everyday office use and i have found myself craving more power out of this badboy so it can serve me well for the next year or so.
Atm i can play wow with everything at very low settings and the laptop gets very hot. Thank you Nvidia for that frying pan of 8600gt.
I was looking at upgrading my graphic card as i found out that it has MXM II slot but the question is what are my options.
There isnt any warranty left on the laptop so i am open for suggestions that might be a bit invasive. My reason for this is, that if I can upgrade the graphic card and get more gaming power out of it then it saves me from buying a new laptop.
I have been reading alot about upgrading with a HD3650 but i am usure how much more gaming power that will yield.
Another option is the 9600 GT but i am unsure if it can work.

Ok, here is a little curiosity issue that I have on my laptop.
When I search in the start menu by just typing say "paint" "maple" "word" I used to get the programme and it was generally highlighted, I hit enter and it would load.
Now the top entry is only highlighted when it's and entry from "favourites and history" (translated, I have a German OS) - if the list contains only "files" the automatically highlighted option is "search everywhere" at the bottom of the list.
It's not a major issue - but a bit annoying.
I've decided to tell the OS to reindex everything - and clicked the "reset all options" button in the indexing window - still does the same.
I can live with it, but it was nice when I could just type "Paint" or even less and hit enter to launch it for a quick screenshot...

G73JW ROG Limited Edition
After the truly knowledgable folks at DELL kept screwing me over, I finally cancelled my order for a fully stocked XPS17. I did this after I found the ASUS G73JW-ROG Limited Edition on Amazon.
When I verified online that my DELL order was indeed cancelled, I order this from Amzon. Is this model limited solely to Amazon? I haven't seen these specs on the G73JW anywhere else.

My XPS17 was supposed to be delivered 12/20, and was delayed. DELL are very customer UNFRIENDLY and complete idiots. I find this ASUS machine to be better equipped, screenwise, and it was about $700.00 cheaper than the XPS17.
Too bad for DELL. I've been ordering from them for over 15 years, but I am DONE with Dell. Customers are just not at all important to them anymore.
I am also wondering what sort of recovery options come with the ASUS. Do they provide any disc backups at all?
I plan to wipe out everything and do a clean install of Win7 and install only what's necessary. Do they provide an option for a Win7 disc, or Do I need my own? (I do have another copy of Win7 if I need it). Also, I downloaded EVERYTHING fromthe ASUS download website for the G73JW series. Can anyone verify what I REALLY need for a fresh Win 7 install? There is an awful lot of stuff they have available. For instance, they have both Intel WiFi and Azurewave WIFI - which do I need?
I know, I guess the real answer is to wait until I get the machine and see which is actually installed, but I wanted to prepare a DVD of only what I need beforehand.

How good is the battery life in real world for Macbook Pro, also viewing angles on LCD?
To give an idea of what I do, I surf the net, burn the odd dvd and watch lots of Youtube videos as well as movies either via an optical drive or from the HDD. I see them posting 8-9hrs life, but this I would guess would be on minimal power savings. I would mainly use OSX, but would also dual boot to windows for certain things.
So realistically what can I expect? Also how good are the viewing angles of Macbooks? It is the one thing I have found with all windows laptops; the lcd's are junk.

Seagate Momentus XT Issues
I updated the Firmware to SD24 on this and now I am having connection issues. The bios randomly stops seeing the drive. So sometimes when I power up I get the good old "No Bootable Device" error or when I do have it powered up my system will reboot and get the No bootable device error.

All credits goes to nautis for continuously creating hybrid drivers even when Dell stopped at the 197 series.
I based this driver on nautis' previous releases and made adjustments specifically for the m11x.
I am an m11x R1 user, and like other m11x users is pissed that the R1 doesnt get the latest driver updates unless we switch to discrete mode.
Pros : latest nvidia driver
latest intel driver
Better power savings since Nvidia is powered down at the moment ofswitching, no more 15 min wait.
Cons : OS must be in test signing mode for the drivers to work.

Instructions :
Additional Step before anything else, i was able to replicate the GFXui error now and able to reslove it in my replication, go to control panel -> system -> advanced system settings - > hardware tab -> device installation settings- > choose "no let me choose what to do, select "install software from windows update only if it is not found in my computer"

Yes this is step 0, make sure you have "Switchable" enabled in the BIOS graphics portion and please uninstall all previous nvidia and intel graphics drivers, after uninstalling intel graphics drivers win7 will ask you to reboot and it will install the default intel drivers, then ask you to reboot again, after this you may proceed to step one.
1. go to device manager, in the display adapters category, make sure you see both intel (windows will instal intel default intel drivers after youve uninstalled all previous intel graphics drivers) and you should also see "Standard Graphics Adapter", disable the intel graphics, (do not uninstall, disable only), this step is important to prevent blackscreen and to prevent the installer from not getting the access rights it needs to some intel files.
2. Download Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider

All credits goes to nautis for continuously creating hybrid drivers even when Dell stopped at the 197 series.
I based this driver on nautis' previous releases and made adjustments specifically for the m11x.
I am an m11x R1 user, and like other m11x users is pissed that the R1 doesnt get the latest driver updates unless we switch to discrete mode.
Pros : latest nvidia driver
latest intel driver
Better power savings since Nvidia is powered down at the moment ofswitching, no more 15 min wait.
Cons : OS must be in test signing mode for the drivers to work.

Additional Step before anything else, i was able to replicate the GFXui error now and able to reslove it in my replication, go to control panel -> system -> advanced system settings - > hardware tab -> device installation settings- > choose "no let me choose what to do, select "install software from windows update only if it is not found in my computer"

Yes this is step 0, make sure you have "Switchable" enabled in the BIOS graphics portion and please uninstall all previous nvidia and intel graphics drivers, after uninstalling intel graphics drivers win7 will ask you to reboot and it will install the default intel drivers, then ask you to reboot again, after this you may proceed to step one.
1. go to device manager, in the display adapters category, make sure you see both intel (windows will instal intel default intel drivers after youve uninstalled all previous intel graphics drivers) and you should also see "Standard Graphics Adapter", disable the intel graphics, (do not uninstall, disable only), this step is important to prevent blackscreen and to prevent the installer from not getting the access rights it needs to some intel files.

ASUS G73JW-XA1 Gfx driver problem?

Just opened my brand new G73JW-XA1 that i got from amazon today, and after cleaning up all the bloatware and everything, i went to update the driver for the GTX 460m gfx card, as everyone says you should. So i went into device manager, removed the current driver, which then caused display to disappear and the computer to default to the VGA display, making everything all big. Restarted the computer, and clicked on the driver installation (i had the correct driver), but when it went to scan for the correct hardware, it said none could be found. I can revert it by system restore, but then ill permanantly be stuck with an old graphics card driver....
Help?

DELL 1558 Laptop wireless card issue driving me crazy
I have a Dell Studio laptop(Studio 1558) with a DW1520 Wireless N WLAN half mini card(Broadcom) that is intermittently switching off wireless on start-up under Windows 7. If a connection is made at start-up it works fine however every one in three start-ups fails to initiate wireless (I see a red cross over the wireless bars in the system tray). To date I have tried the following however none of these solve the problem.
1. FN + F2. Nothing happens
2. Launching the Dell Windows Mobility Centre by pressing [Windows Key + x] to switch the wireless hardware radio on and off .
3. Unchecked "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" under power management
4. Restarting the WLansvc service
I have also installed the latest Dell Wireless WLAN 1520 Half MiniCard Driver (Version: 5.30.21.0, A01, Release Date: 10/7/2009) from the Dell Support Site.
The laptop has Win7 Professional 64-bit version.
At present my only solution is to repeat restarting the laptop until I regain a wireless network connection.
I did notice that whenever it fails either the wireless device does not show up in Device manager at all and sometimes shows up with an error symbol indicated. When I saw in properties(when shown in device manager with error) for the error message it showed "This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)
If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system."
Is there any easy way to determine whether this is a hardware fault or software configuration with my network card? pc wants to format an important hdd
I had a pc with ntfs hdd. It was working, until motherboard burned. I checked, the hdd is working ok, at the first moment when i connected it it opened, but when i turn the new pc off and on, it wanted to format the hdd, the last thing i want. Please help. I use xp sp3 pro.
Airport Extreme issue...
Got an odd issue with an Airport Extreme Base Station I just connected to the in-house network at our small museum. If the Airport is up and running before two of the Macs on the network are booted up, they refuse to connect to the Internet, although both are connected to the network, can be "seen" and accessed by the other Macs on the network, can access the networked printrs, and insist, in the Networking preferences panel, to be connected to the Internet through their Ethernet ports.
Both are running OS 10.4.11, both are G4 Quicksilvers with 1.5 Gigs of RAM with 150 gig HDs. The G4 Dual 1.25 MDD Mac on the network, which is running OS 10.5.8 has no issues.
If I boot everybody up while the Airport is powered down, everything works swimmingly. If I then boot up the Airport while everyone is up and running, everything still runs just fine; everyone can log on and off the Internet.
Another interesting quirk. If the Airport is up and running and then one of the Qucksilvers is booted up and won't connect, the Mac can sort of be forced to connect by shutting it down waiting a minute or so and booting it up three or four times in a row.

HP Printer installation
I resently purchased a HP Deskjet D1660 printer for my daughter and before reading the instructions she plugged in the usb cord into the computer. The instructions clearly state DO NOT PLUG IN USB before installing the software. Somehow it installed into the memory of her operating system. I manually removed the printer but we are now having problems with the RAM and programs are not working properly. Previous to this problem I had just installed a new 500gb harddrive and Windows 7 Premium. I have tried system restore and checked the memory but to no avail. I would really appreciate ANY help!

Now the login windows pops up to ask for a username and password, but I don't remember setting up one in the first place. What's the easiest way to get back on my system? I have An Asus Netbook that I travel with about 2-3 times a year...so I don't need a year-long contract for wi-fi service. When I go to the airport, I cannot tap into the wi-fi system (don't ask why?) so I need a pay as you go - Prepaid Wi-fi service that I use occasionally.

New Desktop - 4 gigs of Ram
I am about to buy a new desktop (HP). It comes with 4 gigs of ram. Is that enough ram to run windows 7, office, surf the internet, and maybe photoshop? Thank you

Ok my loan dropped and my latest paycheck is pretty slim, I want to know what is the cheapest computer I can kind that can do the job I want it to do. Ipod touch by the pool - stream the music to my whole house
Hello - My wintertime project is to figure out how to stream audio data from and ipod at my pool area to my house speakers for everyone to hear.
Already have a receiver in middle of house area with my "B" speakers run to splitters to have audio with volume knobs in multiple areas of the house, in and outside.
How could I connect an ipod outside to my soundsystem?
I know I can run a standard headphone style connection wire from pool area to receiver but with the distance, I would probably pickup some interference and noise. Is there another option? Weather may be a factor to consider too. Wifi reaches out here so that is available. Also, kids may bring different types of players to plug into so any suggestions?

video drivers for acer travelmate 331t
I have installed Windows Me on my Acer Travelmate 331t but cannot get any display except the basic 800 x 600 with just 16 colours.
This is of course not very good. I'm sure before I formatted the drive and did the install it was better. It did have W98 before but even a new install of that still only gives me the one option.
Does anyone have a link to a driver page with these on? I have downloaded a few, like a Trident one but even though it installed ok I still had no new options.I had to upgrade to Windows Me as W98 would not even find my modem (Lucern I think)

I found out something I didn't know . . .
I was given a pristine little 1997 IBM ThinkPad. Impressive specs, 16 Meg of RAM and a whopping 2 Gig HD. It had W95 and all I needed to do was replace the CMOS battery (five bucks at Radio Shack). Booted up perfectly. I installed W98SE, located a 16 bit PCMCIA LAN card, jumped onto my network and viola.
Now I know there is no longer any support for W95, W98, W98SE, or ME. But just for grins I clicked Start, Windows Update, and guess what? Went to the update site and there were all the updates. Just finished the 11 critical updates now running the next 40.
Cool.
I have on order a 32 Meg RAM chip that will max it out.

I bought a phone of e-bay called the black storm 9500 from china, it has windows 6.1 on it, it was working fine but all of a sudden when trying to access the phone settings or trying to send a text, it displays a message saying 2the phone is not ready, please wait 15 seconds and try again"
The person I bought the phone from is not answering my e-mails, I have read on different forums that the phone may need to be re-set or upgrade the rom, I have tried a clean boot but this has not helped, does anyone know how to fix this or where I may be able to get a compatible rom.

Training for CS4 on Mac?
I need to get training on how to use Indesign CS4 on a Mac, but most of the training materials I have seen focus on setting up magazines and newsletters. I am a book publisher, and would like to start using InDesign for book layout. I don't have the time to wade through a lot of crap about setting up magazines or newspapers. I just want to know how to set up book layouts (i.e., create left and right master pages, TOCs, indexes, etc.) I don't even need to know how to deal with color-simple B&W text all the time. At one time I used FrameMaker, but they don't make that for the Mac, and I'm in a total Mac shop now.
Anyone here know a resource for this?
(If it's of help, I'm using Intel Macs running OS X 10.6.5, and no, I don't want to run Parallels or Fusion and put MS Windows on my machine. Tried it and it's a big PITA.)

HP Photosmart C6180 all-in-one-get paper jams every print
My HP Photosmart C6180 All-In-One purchased 10-2007 is connected to my Vista Home Premium 32 bit via USB cable. I use IE8 and DSL from ATT with a Motorola DSL modem Printer has given me minor issues before but on 11-17-10 every print request came out as a blank sheet of paper. Then the jam errors started. The paper has to be removed from the back door. There are some plastic clips spaced acros the back and the far left, from behind, was broken. I removed it. Did a printhead cleanup, alignment, checked my printer preferences, even reloaded the disc and went thru the set up wizzard. Fax test printed out ok, so did alignment & 1 copy of my ATT home page. Thought was OK. Today, a print request it took all 15 sheets of paper in the tray and then said "out of paper". Is this an internal problem that needs me to take it in or anything else I can check on?

Too many issues w/ Firefox

I had heard good things re: Firefox when I bought my first Mac in 2009. I was told that Firefox works well w/ Macs. I didn't download right away as I did want to learn Safari. Well, as things turned out, I finally just got rid of the Firefox after way too many freezes and other issues. I had to download, erase, and download again a few times due to an inability to get rid of some add-on. Anyway, I am getting to know Safari again and my son seems to like Chrome. Any suggestions from anyone? Happy holidays!

airport or router problem
My macbook ( 2 GHz intel core 2 duo, OS X v. 10.4.11) will show that I am connected to the internet, but is very slow or will time-out and show "not connected to internet." The airport software is up to date. My router is a d-link DIR 615. My dell connects wirelessly without problem. Is there a solution that doesn't require a new router?
Selecting printer's paper size to match the size in Pages
I am trying to print an envelope via Pages. However, I can find no way to get my printer (OKI CS3400) to change its format to match the envelope - it just prints an A4 sheet with the envelope nicely printed across the bottom of the page.
In MSWord using windows, when going to print a document, it was always possible to adjust the printer itself - but I can find now way of doing that in Pages. Can anyone guide me?
