AVI editor needed (a SIMPLE one!!!) (and Free)

I am looking for a simple AVI editor so I can make smaller AVI clips to store on dvd. I currently have Arcsoft Showbiz that came with my HP DVD writer and I like it, but I can't save clips in AVI format.

Any help ??
Thanks
Matthew

Does said DVD have to play on a DVD player?

If not, look for VIRTUAL DUB and use codecs like DivX. Others are noted at http://www.moviecodec.com

If you need it to play in a DVD player, then you have to make "standard" DVDs.

When I transfer my digital8 tapes to my computer, it takes up about 13gig (in AVI). I would like to be able to split that up into smaller clips so I can store them on DVDs and make space on my HD.

Take a look here. I see free to try but not free one though. I might also add that dvd burner are usually bundled with softwares.

You might also look up video splitter on google if all you want to do is split up avi files. Another program that reduce .vob(dvd) file is call "shrink" and THAT is free.

Windows Live movie maker makes movies.
It will also Start, Stop and Split.
I take each movie clip, pretend it is a movie, and trim it.
Then put all the pieces together in any program you like.
