HD Camera with the option of external audio input?

I'm looking to purchases a hd prosumer camera I can use for interviews and show events. I'm trying to hunt down a camera that has the option of recording audio from a sound bored OR external wireless mics.

Is there a camera with such an option that is decently price?

My budget is around 800 - 2000.

Thanks!

I spent months going into every store on Main Street and online that stocked consumer camcorders, trying to find just what you're looking for. First, a true prosumer HD camcorder is going to be above your projected budget when all is said and done. I wouldn't even look at that line of gear without being prepared to spend quite a bit more than your budget limit.

That said, there are some excellent consumer HD camcorders that while they are tiny when compared to prosumer and pro gear...but...offer extremely good imaging as well as high quality audio. With consumer products though, you'll be limited to mini-jacks and such for stereo audio inputs. That's not the high-end way to do it but for interviews and other fair-weather setups the mini-plugs and jacks work fine.

You didn't explain your computer and editing capabilities but along with the cost of a very nice HD camcorder you will also need some very powerful editing software. Your computer will also need to be fast and stable with many hundreds of gigs worth of hard disk space. That's where your budget starts to squirm a bit.

If you're going to edit HD video, be prepared for some unexpected twists and turns in your quest to do it right...and have a few bucks on hand to upgrade or even replace your current computer, depending on what you have. Of course, if you do have a monster PC or Mac that can burn rubber in any gear, then, with some good editing software, such as the latest version of Vegas Pro, you may indeed be able to step into the prosumer stuff without added expense.

As for which camcorder to buy, well, I decided on the Canon Vixia HF S10 and I am very pleased with its performance. In fact, I think there is only one other camcorder in its class that is more desirable and that's the newer HF S21. It has 64 Gigs of built-in RAM and costs about $1,400. So, an HF S21 plus Vegas Pro plus some upgrading on your computer should fill your bill. That's my opinion and I wish you well.

One other thing. I suggest you go to youtube and other websites and search for HD videos that are shot with these camcorders I mentioned. There are lots of examples there for the watching.

After much comparison I've found a cost efficient and high quality solution.

Camera: Cannon t2i

Audio: DXA-5Da (XLR Adapter)

Memory Storage: 32GB SDHC

This solution gives me the flexibility of doing high end video capture with superb audio.

Price range is ~ $1500 when all put together

I hope this helps anyone who may be looking for a good setup on the cheap.

For computer equipment, I can use either or of two machines. Intel Quad Core Q6600 @ 2.4GHZ w/ 3GB Ram windows box OR my Mac Pro Quad core late 09.

For video editing i'm using adobe premier

I'm looking for a similar camera for use in recording interviews and business conferences. Are there any additional suggestions for affordable video cameras with an external audio input so I can record from the sound board? I'd prefer sub-$1000, but I'm willing to go up to $1200 if there's a significant difference.

Thanks.
