Packer NSAnti-gen - found and then disappears

Dell Inspiron 9400
Intel Core 2 CPU
32 bit - 2GB
Vista Home Premium
Service Packs, updates and anti-virus all up to date

Last time I ran adaware there was a pop up saying it had found Packer.NSAnti-gen process and I had to wait until the end of the scan to remove it.

Come the end of the scan, I rescanned using Adaware, Security Essentials and Malwarebytes and they found nothing, not even in safe mode.

Can anyone tell me if it was a false positive? Any ideas how I should go about removing? Is it still there at all? Does anyone know what it does? I've searched the forums but can't find anything germane so...... help, please

I don't know where it came from but there's a teenager looking shifty.

Catherine..

Did you delete the photo frame? If that's when Ad-Aware detected it, and you removed it, it shouldn't be a problem. It might also help to clean your temporary files.

IF you still have it installed, and wish to be sure it's safe to keep, you can upload the file to VirusTotal. It's an online scanner, which analyzes suspicious files.

Hope this helps..

You stated in your post (elsewhere) Ad-Aware 'flashed up a warning'. I take that to mean you have Ad-Aware running in real-time.

DO you have both AAW and MSE installed?

Yes I have aaware and MSE, but only the free AAware - I was running a full scan when the pop-up er... popped up and disappeared. Neither now find anything at all. This seems to be a really old trojan and there is very little information about it. At least in places that I can access.

Thanks for all suggestions
