Hi All
I have an late 07 alu iMac dual core with 2Gb RAM and 500Gb Western Digital hard drive, running OS10.5.7. Last Saturday it blocked on a web site and refused to force quit or anything. I hard booted it as a last resort and left it . Now I can't get it to boot up, it blocks just on the desktop image, with spinning beachball of death. I have tried the Disk util, doesn't work. I get a "invalid index key". I have ran disk warrior on it and rebuild it twice. I could then get it to mount via the target mode on an old G4 powerbook. When I try to copy the files from it to a Firewire drive it seems that the drive freezes the finder and other apps on the powerbook. I tried booting the iMac normally and got the new Mac screeen, with the welcome to OS X etc. I went thru the sart up stuff and then it blocked on the choice of keyboard??? Unable to continue.
I have a few questions to ask you experts and Mac geniuses, do you think that it could be 1 - a hard drive dying? 2 - Logic board dying or 3 - something else?
I really need to get my files off the drive and on to an external, no matter what. how can I do that? Can any body help out?
Thanks in advance for your help.
griff.
