While playing intense online games, like Battlefield Bad Company 2, have you noticed that under intense situations your frame rate drops and then network connectivity slows (ping over 200). You end up getting shot and you keep wondering WHAT THE HECK... The reason for this is throttling. Windows sets the network to throttle as to not sacrifice sound. I kept thinking it was the sound card and I do keep mine lowered to 16bit sound. I can't take full credit for the below because another person found the actual reg key first for the value. Use at your own risk... (and yes I have tested this on my own R1 and it indeed helps games like BFBC2!!!!)
Step 1: Start -> Run -> Regedit
Step 2: File -> Export -> whatever location you want to keep registry backups.
Step 3: Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionMultimediaSystemProfile
Step 4: The entry for network performance throttling, default value is 10; set it to FFFFFFFF hex (willl look like 0xFFFFFFFF to the right of the entry)
Step 5: Reboot
Best wishes,
